Maintenance Matters: What Is an Air & Fuel Induction Service?

Basic maintenance is the key to keep your vehicle running at its very best. When you keep up with fluid changes, filter changes, tire checks along with other services, you are ensuring the safety, reliability and performance of your vehicle. Performing regular maintenance also helps you avoid expensive repairs down the road.

At Turner Auto Care we like to work with our customers so that they are in the know about their vehicle’s overall health and any maintenance needs along with the timing and priority of these needs.

So let’s get into it. What’s an Air/Fuel Induction Service?

In the simplest terms it is a process to perform a massive cleaning of the all the components of your vehicle’s induction system. The induction system components include the throttle body, intake manifold, fuel injectors and intake valves. The combined purpose of these components is to ensure the proper mixing of air and fuel going into your engine. Over time, deposits of carbon, dirt and other contaminants begin to build up inside this system and disrupt the proper mix of air and fuel making it harder for your engine to perform at its best.

Common symptoms that indicate your vehicle may need an air/fuel induction service are:

  • Decrease in and/or poor fuel efficiency.
  • Sluggish when accelerating.
  • Ride feels a little rougher than normal.
  • Decreased power.
  • Ticking noise from the engine.

Benefits of having a timely fuel induction service are:

  • Better fuel efficiency/gas mileage.
  • Faster acceleration.
  • Better engine performance.
  • Reduced emissions.
  • Reduced strain on engine resulting in longer engine life.
  • Prevention of future issues and/or repairs.

The induction service starts with the removal of the air intake tube and the cleaning of the throttle valve. We use an aerator nozzle along with a heavy duty intake cleaning agent (we favor BG products) that cleans the intake manifold and intake valves. Next we use another cleaning agent for the fuel system, injector and combustion chamber. This second cleaner also cleans and extends the life of the catalytic converter. Finally we advise our customers to fill up their gas tank after the service to take full advantage of the cleaning properties. We recommend having a fuel induction service done every 3 years or 30k miles – whichever comes first – but definitely BEFORE you start to feel any of the symptoms mentioned above.
